Several Asian cultures, including that of the Andaman Islands, believe that humanity descended from a bamboo stalk. In philippine myth of creation, the legend has it that the first man and woman were freed by the opening of a bamboo shoot that emerged on an island created after the battle between the two elementary forces, Sky and Ocean.
