Laminaria, scientifically known as laminaria digitata, is a long and brown seaweed. It is found in cold, oxygen-rich seas and oceans, particularly in the North Sea and the North Atlantic. After harvesting, this seaweed is dried, processed and marketed in the form of various products. The laminaria is known and appreciated mainly for its high content of mineral salts, including, in particular, iodine.
