The avocado plant belongs to the Lauraceae family and its origins date back to more than 5,000 years ago; today the avocado is grown in all tropical countries, in South Africa, the United States and recently also in Italy this precious fruit with multiple properties has begun to be cultivated.
The avocado was first discovered during explorations of Central America, in the areas now known as Mexico and Guatemala, where it was already part of the diet of the indigenous Aztecs and Maya before the arrival of the Spaniards. Also called alligator pear, avocado was described by the conquistadors as a fruit "abundant, with a pulp similar to butter and characterized by an excellent flavor".
